Mojo: The AI-Native Language

It's 2024, and the "Python for everything" era is facing a challenge. While Python is great for prototyping, we always have to drop down to C++ or Rust for performance-critical kernels. Mojo, created by Chris Lattner (the mind behind LLVM and Swift), aims to fix this "two-language problem."

Python Compatibility, C Performance

Mojo is designed as a superset of Python. You can import any Python library, but you can also write high-performance code using types and strict memory management.

fn vs def

In Mojo, you can use def for Python-style flexibility or fn for strict, compiled performance.

fn add(a: Int, b: Int) -> Int:
    return a + b

Ownership and Borrowing

Mojo introduces an ownership system that feels like Rust but is more accessible. It uses keywords like borrowed, inout, and owned to control memory.

SIMD and Tiling

What makes Mojo "AI-native" is its first-class support for SIMD (Single Instruction, Multiple Data) and hardware-specific optimizations. You can write a matrix multiplication kernel that is 35,000x faster than Python by utilizing the full width of your CPU's registers.
